Tour Dordogne Valley
The well known name of Dordogne is equivalent to famous cave paintings, remarkable chateaux, delicious food, rolling green countryside, and historic villages!
Here on this tour you get to experience the force of water and the large rivers that have cut the limestone plateau and provided for all the now famous grottos that prehistoric man chose as his canvas. You can visit these grottos, explore the historic aspects of important towns such as Bergerac, Sarlat, La Roque Gageac, Beynac, and Les Eyzies. See chateaux, and stay in charming and welcoming country inns & chateau. All that makes Dordogne famous is available in this trip!
Itinerary:
Day one: Arrive Bergerac - a large town with good rail access and services. This is your gateway into the famous Black Perigord. The historic city is very picturesque and offers visits including the Maison des Vins - for local wines. Orientation and bike delivery at your hotel. Dinner out on your own in Bergarac. Lodging Hotel de France
Day two: Tremolat
distance 44 km
A fairly challenging start to this tour, it involves some hilly terrain up to the viewpoint of Les Cingles de Tremolat. Dinner and night included at Relais & Chateaux Le Vieux Logis
Day three: Les Eyzies
distance 30 or 50 km
A lot to see and visit on this day, you have a choice of rides. Starting out easy you come to Audrix a small village by small roads and almost no traffic. Then down to Le Bugue and Gouffre de Proumeyssac, and then on to Les Eyzies - capital of Pre-History! Take time to visit this very charming town and its sites/museums including the Font de Gaume. Font de Gaume is a cave that houses a collection of prehistoric polychrome cave paintings. Prehistoric people living in the Dordogne Valley first settled in the mouth of Font de Gaume around 25,000 BC. The cave was forgotten until the nineteenth century when local people again began to visit the cave. Paintings were discovered and date from around 17000 BC, during the Magdalenien period. The cave's most famous painting, a frieze of five bison was discovered accidentally in 1966 while scientists were cleaning the cave. Dinner included, lodging is central charming Hotel Cro Magnon.
Day four: Montignac
Distance 45 km
Ride to Montignac, where you can visit the Lascaux Cave replica, famous for its Paleolithic cave paintings, which are estimated to be 16 000 years old! On your way back to Les Eyzies, you can stop at the National Museum of Prehistory to complete your experience! Stay at the same hotel, with dinner on your own.
Day five: Sarlat
distance 25 or 41 km
Again, a choice of rides to allow you more time to visit. The destination is the very charming town of Sarlat. This town with its cobbled streets, old roofs, and warm stone walls give an exceptional heritage. Sarlat is a medieval town that developed around a large Benedictine abbey of Carolingian origin. The medieval Sarlat Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Sacerdos. Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. You have a 3 star hotel in the center of the historical old town of Sarlat, Hotel Madaleine. Dinner included.
Day six: Monfort castle
distance 43 km
A rolling ride to visit the panoramic countryside with visits at the Chateau of Monfort and rides along very lightly traveled roads. You can even choose to ride on a bike path back to Sarlat if you choose. Dinner on your own tonight, and same hotel in central Sarlat.
Day seven: La Roque Gageac
distance 48 km.
Today your ride with first take you to La Roque Gageac, a village with traditional houses nestled against the cliff sides and a town recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France and then to Castelnaud where you can visit the museum of the middle ages wars. Other possible visits on this itinerary include Beynac and Domme. Night at Hotel Le Clement V in Belves, and dinner on your own.
Day eight: end of tour after breakfast.

Hotel Les vieux Logis is nesled
on a picturesque bend of the Dordogne, in the sleepy, tobacco-growing village of Trémolat. Tucked away on a quiet street this charming hotel opens up on one side to farmland and has a pretty back garden with a small stream. The bedrooms are located in various ivy-draped buildings about the property whose tranquil views open onto the freshness of the countryside. The main restaurant is in the barn and the tables are cleverly positioned within each of the stalls.

Hotel Cro-Magnon is located in the former place where the Man of Cro-Magnon used to live. Each room has been entirely renovated and personalized.
The hotel La Madeleine is a nice hotel with all comfort, entirely with air conditioning, with a bar, a lounge, a lift and a garage. LA MADELEINE is also a privileged location in the heart of town, with direct access to the medieval town, its market and animations
