Roman countryside Bracciano Lake

Come to skirt all the lake of Bracciano: Meeting point Anguillare Sabazia, first stop to visit castello Orsini Odescalchi. total Distance 25 miles - Medium to easy Difficulty.

Itinerary:
Meet at Anguillara station (easily reached in 20 minutes train from Rome). Perched on a spur above Lake Bracciano, this charming small town has been a fiefdom of both the Anguillara and the Orsini families. You enter through a 16th-century gate, beyond which awaits a beautiful view of the lake and the ancient seat of the barony. Our ride takes us along the shores and past the village of Bracciano, which retains a Renaissance urban layout.
The Orsini-Odescalchi castle (recently famous for wedding parties of famous actor as Tom Cruise)  was built in the 15th century: its pentagonal shape and circular towers tell us it is actually an aristocratic residence built atop a pre-existing military structure.
Continuing toward Trevignano, we might stop for a quick swim. The lake, fed by underground tributaries, occupies a former volcanic crater and is perfect for bathers, thanks to very sophisticated civil drainage systems and strict navigation restrictions. The extremely varied aquatic fauna attracts all sorts of predators, including red kites, hawks, coots and sea gulls. Back again in Anguillara, we will relax and enjoy a special lunch based on fresh handmade pasta on a terrace overlooking the lake.
